Acquired personally in a tiny antique store in New Mexico, but of unknown provenance, this is an interesting variant of the Texas Ranger badge. It is reminiscent of an authentic badge worn by Ranger Marvin "Red" Burton, as described on the official Texas Ranger website.
The original of this badge was carved from a Mexico peso coin, and the back of the badge still shows the Mexican eagle and the wording on the peso: Estados Unidos Mexicanos. The front bears the letters T E X A S on the five-pointed star at its center.
